A Concert for Haiti

March 12, 2010  |  theQside Bonus Videos  |  1 Comment

The Q Side teamed up with the non-profit m.a.m.a. earth to put on a red carpet benefit concert in Santa Monica on March 6th that saw the comeback of an R&B legend along with some of the new stars of R&B. The event managed to raise over $3000 for the relief effort in Haiti, specifically, to help a grassroots organization called Yayasan Bumi Sehat (Healthy Mother Earth Foundation) who’s birthing clinic opened its doors this past Friday, March 5th in Jacmel, Haiti.

It was an amazing night that had performances from Mateo, Res, the legendary El Debarge, Think Tank and Bruno Mars (who’s currently featured on B.o.B.’s hit song Nothin’ On You).

Everyone was incredible but El Debarge’s performance was the highlight of the show and when he left the stage to loud cheers, people felt like they had just witnessed a monumental moment. The comeback of a legend who’s made it through controversy and returned to greatness. El is back in the studio working on new music with Babyface and he’s planning to release an album later this year.

This photo taken by Brian McGee captures the moment after I introduced El Debarge to Mateo, who’s poised to make an impact similar to the run El had with his brand of love songs. In fact, because of the rain that night, El didn’t bring his own piano and just jumped on Mateo’s instead. That is definitely what I call a moment.

So proud of my boy…

One of my best friends is starring in the new HBO show How To Make It In America. His name is Victor Rasuk and when I say he’s a friend- that’s an understatement- he’s more like my brother so when he landed this gig and I saw how he shined in the first episode that aired last week- I felt like doing a cartwheel! This behind the scenes video will give you an idea of why I’m so proud and probably compel you to watch Sunday nights at 10pm.
