Cee-Lo is already awesome but backed by an all female band puts his level of awesome into the stratosphere. Here’s his performance of Bright Lights Bigger City from Saturday Night Live this past weekend.

Another level…

It was Friday night, January 7th and there was no lack of options for things to do in Hollywood. Big Sean had concert at the El Rey Theatre that ended up including performances by Chris Brown, Wiz Khalifa, Tyga and even Warren G came out. It was a scene as the footage Miss Info posted on her site will attest to.

On the other side of town was a much different kind of show. It was at Hotel Cafe, a low key venue that’s about an eighth of the size of the El Rey and it’s entrance is in a back alley. The artist performing there didn’t bring up any household names to perform with him but he didn’t need to. His name is Rocco Deluca. He’d been signed to Kiefer Sutherlands label Ironworks and made appearances on shows like Jay Leno but on this particular night there was something decidedly UN-Hollywood going on. The only light on stage came from a small lamp clipped to his mic stand that he seemed to be singing to. The words were the supporting cast to what was coming out of his blues guitar though. The passion he played it with was definitely another level then anybody in the room was used to hearing.

Whether the song called out Amen or not it would’ve felt spiritual the way he was performing. People in the crowd were making involuntary sounds that resembled catching the holy ghost. Thanks to the videography of Ted Newsome you can see another part of his inspiring performance here.

The Sounds of VTech / Bilal: Tainted Love

Recently it was Bob Marley’s Is This Love that inspired Bilal to do a live cover and now it’s Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love” (originally performed by Gloria Jones in 1964). Props to Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Daedelus, and the rest of the band that backs him here cause they all freaked it so well.
