April 14, 2010  |  Live Performances, Rock/Alternative  |  1 Comment

Justin Vernon decided to cover Tom Petty’s Crawling Back To You during Music NOW 2010 in Cincinnati and the liberties he took with the arrangement definitely give it a unique quality. Sounds amazing. If you want to compare it to Tom’s original version click HERE.

Why I love Erykah Badu

March 31, 2010  |  Interviews, Live Performances, Soul/R&B  |  4 Comments

First of all, there’s the way she performed at the album release party for New Amerykah Part 2 at the El Rey Theatre. This is footage will show you how she did everything from scatting to making beats on an MPC!!

Secondly, there’s the way she broke down one of the deepest traps people get caught up in during this interview on 106 & Park. How she managed to say those things on a show like that is absolutely remarkable.

Lastly, although definitely not least important, is how she still has such a great sense of humor and clearly doesn’t take herself too seriously. This interview she did with Fader TV is a glorious example of that.

Erykah is one of our best and brightest artists so I hope you check out the new album HERE and download it.

A Concert for Haiti [Highlights]

March 10, 2010  |  Live Performances, Soul/R&B  |  1 Comment

The Q Side teamed up with the non-profit m.a.m.a. earth to put on a red carpet benefit concert in Santa Monica on March 6th that saw the comeback of an R&B legend along with some of the new stars of R&B. The event managed to raise over $3000 for the relief effort in Haiti, specifically, to help a grassroots organization called Yayasan Bumi Sehat (Healthy Mother Earth Foundation) who’s birthing clinic opened its doors this past Friday, March 5th in Jacmel, Haiti.

It was an amazing night that had performances from Mateo, Res, the legendary El Debarge, Think Tank and Bruno Mars (who’s currently featured on B.o.B.’s hit song Nothin’ On You).

Everyone was incredible but El Debarge’s performance was the highlight of the show and when he left the stage to loud cheers, people felt like they had just witnessed a monumental moment. The comeback of a legend who’s made it through controversy and returned to greatness. El is back in the studio working on new music with Babyface and he’s planning to release an album later this year.

This photo taken by Brian McGee captures the moment after I introduced El Debarge to Mateo, who’s poised to make an impact similar to the run El had with his brand of love songs. In fact, because of the rain that night, El didn’t bring his own piano and just jumped on Mateo’s instead. That is definitely what I call a moment.

A message from Bruno Mars…
