While everyone is still talking about what Miley Cyrus did at the 2013 VMAs, I’d like to revisit my favorite moment from that night. It’s not often a hip hop artist addresses a human rights issue on that kind of stage but Macklemore & Co did just that with their performance of Same Love. It was powerful and touching– if this performance were getting the kind of attention that Miley Cyrus is getting we’d be making real progress.
Thanks to IN-Q, I’ve got a spark for spoken word poetry again.
Very live on David Letterman. Their album The Heist is definitely worth a download.
“This is…kinda chunky.”
Flex valiantly tried to describe what Kendrick was doing but what you’re seeing is an absolute legend in the making. Watch him run lyrical laps around these 3 classic beats while he was on Hot 97 this week and try to tell me something different.
NPR thought to have Miguel perform in the confines of their office where his talent could really be tested. His sound stripped down to just him and a guitarist. No slick editing, just his talent on full display and it’s incredible. You also get a good feel for his personality. Reminds me of when a mutual friend brought him to my house warming party 5 years ago. Miguel introduced himself to me and politely asked if he could sing for my guests. Seems like the same nice guy now.
She’s sung with SBTRKT and now we can see more of what she’s about. This song got her buzzing in 2012 and now she’s starting to tour stateside as her EP entitled If You’re Never Gonna Move just came out here. This particular song will be included on her upcoming full length album called Devotion. As if Jessie J wasn’t enough, now we get to enjoy another singer from the UK named Jessie.
So emo but so good though. Download her EP right here.
Great performance of the single from their new album Beacon which is out now!
The highlight of my New York Fashion Week experience was hosting a showcase event for Case Mate that featured a performance from Common. Lately the word freestyle has been used loosely and a lot of MC’s are getting away with just reciting prepared rhymes but Common is one of the few MC’s that still actually freestyles. That skill for spontaneity was on full display right here.
