XV is from Wichita, Kansas which isn’t exactly known for it’s hip hop but with projects like this coming out that could change. It’s got new beats by Just Blaze, J Cole and Seven. Some great guest appearances by Pusha T, Kendrick Lamar and Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy and it’s the type of listen that’ll have you involuntarily bopping your head. If you’ve been following my career away from the camera you know how I signed Mateo to Myspace Records then eventually linked him up with Alicia Keys’ producer Krucial. Well they decided to have some fun with a handful of hits like Kanye’s Runaway while sharing a few of the original songs they’ve come up with too. You’ll also recognize a handful of the best remixes from the mixtapes we worked on over the years.
Have a listen to this new original from it called Pace Of My Heart:

Tyler The Creator is getting the most attention out of anyone in the Odd Future crew since his video for Yonkers dropped but the crews resident singer Frank Ocean should be getting more attention after putting this mixtape out.

Jamie took over the BBC 6 Mix radio show and used the opportunity to unleash one of the freshest sets I’ve heard in a while. It’s peppered with incredible steel drums, dubstep rhythms and other wonderfully colorful sonic treats.

In honor of John Legend & The Roots‘ Grammy winning album Wake Up!, J. Period and Truelements Music put together this remix compilation featuring Legend, The Roots Crew, Rakim, Common, Nneka, Q-Tip, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, K’Naan, and more. Black Thought hosts this epic mixtape which remixes and rebuilds the original recording sessions from the Wake Up! album.
Very cool to hear what J. Period had to say about this mixtape: “When this project began, I was excited to explore the legacy of soul music behind the Wake Up! album,” explains J.Period, “but I had no idea of the level of access and creative freedom I would be granted by John Legend & The Roots to tell that story. The result is not only something that traces musical history lines from artists like Marvin Gaye to contemporaries like John Legend — but something that adds to that history: brand new collaborative tracks as if Marvin & John recorded together. It’s simply unprecedented on a mixtape. And I am particularly proud of the fact that all of it speaks to the true power of music to carry a message, and have a positive impact on society, and on people’s lives.”
This is almost too good to be free but it actually is and you can download here.
