Quadron is a Danish duo consisting of singer Coco O and musician/producer Robin Hannibal. They’ve been on my radar since their manager/my friend Anthony Demby put their music into my inbox. Quadron makes the kind of soul music that adds on to everything that’s been working in the genre. Coco’s voice is classic and she uses it as passionately as she should. For example, this video for their single Hey Love off their new album Avalanche.

Mayer’s back at it in a major way with this song. It’s not the first time a lover’s been compared to drugs but it’s definitely one of the funkiest.

I’ll never forget when my friend Shelley got me out to one of their first shows and we proceeded to dance our asses off. 2AM Club has the kind of fun that I always want to have. It’s refreshing to see a new band not take themselves too seriously and serve up such a dope soundtrack for the good times. Check it out below and download it here.

At the rate Kendrick’s been ascending in the hip hop ranks, it was only a matter of time that a collaboration like this would happen. They both bring their A games on this remix with plenty of lyrics that will have you hitting the rewind button. Jay usually dominates any song he’s on but Kendrick’s presence is undeniably as strong here.

Cole included a note with this audio offering:
It’s time.
I appreciate you giving me the time I needed to grow, experiment, and find the direction for my 2nd album.. And I have. Along the way I’ve recorded at least 4 albums worth of material, lots of it being unfinished demo versions waiting to be polished up, some of them are great songs and important stories that just won’t make the album (either they don’t fit Sonically, don’t fit Theme, or there’s just not enough space) .
Tonight, I want to give you a few of these songs because you deserve them. It’s hard as fuck for me to keep all this music from you for so long, so I know it’s been hard for you to wait. Thank you for your patience. Vibe out to these songs in their raw form, no polish.. just a lot of my soul..
The wait is over.
Truly Yours,
Born Sinner

While everyone seems to be talking about Justin Timberlakes new music, I’m way more excited about this. This collective’s been delivering an interesting variety of soul music for a few years now and all their releases have a delicious vibe. Anchored by the music of No I.D. and the vocals of James Fauntleroy with appearances by Common and Jhené Aiko. Download it here.

Frank originally made this song for the Django Unchained soundtrack but Quentin Tarantino didn’t end up with a scene that was right for it so Frank just shared it via Tumblr instead and said “Django was ill without it.”
It’s never a surprise to hear great new music from Alicia Keys. It’s actually expected at this point but with the release of Girl On Fire she’s set the bar even higher. The way she stretches sonically (When It’s All Over) and continues to share from the deepest place just keeps getting more inspirational (Brand New Me). Collaborating with people like Maxwell, Jamie xx and Miguel definitely doesn’t hurt but it’s clear that Alicia is always at the core of the songs on this new album. Her point of view seems to seep from every note and now we love her even more because of it.

Heard this gem on Broke Mogul and it’s been on repeat since.

Colin’s been quiet for 4 years but thankfully he’s reemerging now. Nobody makes music quite like Mr. Munroe, it’s soulful and extremely fresh. He’s brought along some interesting co-stars for this free album too. Unsung Hero features talent like Kendrick Lamar, RZA and Pusha T. Catch his video for the 1st track off it below and download Unsung Hero here.
