Dame Dash + The Blak Roc Project

Dame put the right ingredients together when he got The Black Keys to provide the soundscape for MC’s like Q-Tip, Mos Def and Pharoahe Monche to rap over. If it seems random that Dame is collaborating with a rock group like The Black Keys read his explanation under the video.

Check out the song featuring Mos Def and Jim Jones HERE and this video shows you how it went down.

According to Mr. Dash:

“My assistants, who are now actually A&Rs, were going to a Black Keys concert for their birthday and I wasn’t invited,” he explained. “Usually on their birthdays we all do it together and the reason why I wasn’t invited was because the concert was sold out . And I had never heard of The Black Keys and I was like y’all still gonna go without me. And they was like ‘Yo it’s The Black Keys.” So I was like, lemme hear this group. So I start listening to them and they actually became my favorite group. They were on heavy rotation so we just reached out and we kicked it with them and I was like, ‘I wonder what would happen if we got Jim Jones and the Keys in the studio’ and Jim came in and all of a sudden Mos came in and then [it] just built from there. “

TiRon’s Video Release Party

September 18, 2009  |  Behind the Scenes, Hip Hop  |  Leave A Comment

On Wednesday night we celebrated the upcoming release of TiRon’s debut video Throwing My Money at the Echo in LA and it felt like the arrival of the newest star in hip hop. Most of LA’s dopest artists came out to support including Pac Div, Blu, Dom Kennedy, Shawn Chrystopher, Diz Gibran and Brook D’Leau of J*Davey. It was a packed house that got treated to a great show and the world premiere of the video. On Tuesday it hits the net and you’ll get to see it too.

B.o.B. + The Renegade Album

August 20, 2009  |  Behind the Scenes, Comedy, Hip Hop  |  1 Comment

Great story behind this- courtesy of Shake from 2dopeboyz.com:

I’m sure it’s well known, but I’m a pretty big fan of Mr. Bobby Ray. And I think it’s safe to say that 94% of the dopeboyz/girlz that frequent the site are as well. It’s also well known that I despise Atlantic Records. So with that said, I put together a collection of (tagless) joints that have leaked since the time I very first heard dude in hopes that it can spread around the internets and hopefully wake those dinosaurs up. Word is (via Wendy Day & Amir’s little convo awhile back) they really like B.o.B but are trying to force him into a 360 deal. And if he doesn’t conform, they are gonna shelve him. I mean, imagine if this was actually his debut album? Sheeiiiit… I vote we call/email/run-up-on Atlantic and tell them to stop fucking around.

DJ A-Trak in all his glory

Last Saturday he gave this set of the craziest ol’ school hip hop at the Do-Over party in LA. Make some room around wherever your watching this cause it will probably induce involuntary dancing.
